Kara Chiumento's Chicago 3 day Walk Pledge Page

Ok kids, I am doing this and I need your help. In June 2002 I am going to walk 60 miles in 3 days. From Kenosha, WI to Chicago, IL. The cause? Breast Cancer.
I am walking in honor of my Cousin, Karen. She is a 15+ years breast cancer survivor. She survived this wretched disease when treatments were in the dark ages. I am walking for her and the many women out there that currently do not know that they have breast cancer.

Do you know that there are 1,000,000 women right now living in America with undetected breast cancer? I am walking in hopes that atleast one of them will find their cancer early enough to survive.
Do you know that in America this year, a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed every 3 minutes and over 70% of breast cancer cases occur in women with no indentifable risk factors?
Do you know that a screening mammogram is a simple, low dose x-ray procedure that can reveal breast cancer at its earliest stage. Yet, a survey showed that only 58% of women 50 and older had received a mammogram within the last year?
Do you know the five-year survival rate for patients treated for early-stage breast cancer is 96%?

The mission of this crusade is to improve access to quality breast care for medically underserved women, and to advance breast cancer research in the U.S.

This is why I am walking and why I need your help. I need your money---plain and simple. My goal is to raise $3,000 for this cause, the minimum just to participate is $1,900. So every little bit of your money is needed. What do you get out of it? Well you get the pleasure of knowing that I, Kara Chiumento, will be training for the next 8 months in the windy, bitter coldness of Chicago. Eventually I will work up to walking 20 miles a day, in rain, snow, sleet---whatever the Chicago winter gives me, so that I can give your money to this cause. I am doing this while you are sitting in the comfort of your home laughing at me, while drinking the warm beverage of your choice. During the event I will sleep in a tent and eat on the go. I will use porta-potties and take showers in a semi-tractor trailer. Kind of funny when you think about it.
So there, what do you think? Can you help me?

Please go to www.bethepeople.com and pledge online or if you prefer to pledge by mail please email me at uaskeduler@aol.com and I will send you a pledge form. Also, please sign my guestbook and tell me what you think!

Thank-you for your time and your money.
